About these notes
Little Wood Buildings is a stream of working notes on small timber structures: sheds, garden stores, workrooms, woodstores and the scale models that explain them. Each note takes one part of the job and follows it from the ground up.
The notes are written to be read in the order the work happens. Groundwork first, then the floor frame, then walls, then the roof, then the things that are fitted into the shell and the things that keep it standing afterwards. Anything that can be drawn is drawn, because a section through an assembly explains a lap or a drip faster than a paragraph does.
Notes are filed under six tags: groundwork, framing, cladding, roofing, joinery and upkeep. The archive lists everything by month. Nothing here is a specification and nothing here replaces the rules that apply where a building is put up; sizes named in the notes are the sizes in the drawing beside them.
